VASER liposuction: what ultrasound assistance brings
VASER liposuction is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction. It does not replace the principle of liposuction: it adds a step, emulsifying the fat with ultrasound before it is aspirated. This article explains what this assistance brings, and its limits. It does not replace personalised medical advice.

The principle: emulsify before aspirating
VASER delivers pulsed ultrasonic energy through a probe. This energy loosens and emulsifies the fat cells while, to some extent, sparing the neighbouring structures: vessels, nerves and connective tissue. The fat prepared in this way is then removed with thin cannulas.
What ultrasound brings
- greater control over targeted areas, including some fibrous zones that are harder to treat ;
- a procedure that may be less traumatic for the surrounding tissue, which can be accompanied by less bruising in some cases ;
- value for definition work on the contour, when the indication and body type are suitable.
This technology is one of the tools the practice may use; you can read more on our technologies page.
What it does not change
VASER liposuction remains a surgical procedure, with anaesthesia, swelling and a recovery period. It is not a weight-loss method: it treats localised fat deposits, not excess weight. The result also depends on the quality of the skin and its ability to retract. The indication is assessed case by case, and no result can be guaranteed.
Who is it for?
The approach is mainly for people with localised fat deposits that resist diet and exercise, with skin of sufficient quality. Using VASER, rather than another technique, is decided in consultation.
Recovery and aftercare
Wearing a compression garment is usual after the procedure. Swelling decreases gradually and the return to activity happens over several weeks. The result is assessed over time, once the tissues have stabilised. The recovery follows specific instructions and varies from one person to another.
Frequently asked questions
Does VASER liposuction make you lose weight?
No. It reshapes specific areas by removing localised fat deposits. It is not a treatment for excess weight or obesity.
Is it a non-surgical technique?
No. It is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction, performed under anaesthesia, with a recovery period.
Is the result immediate?
No. Swelling masks the result at first, and skin retraction takes time. The outcome takes shape over time.
